Cinematography
The opening sequence of this film is very effective as it has a long opening so it thinks about keeping the audience entertained for at least two hours . Also all the pictures that are shown within the opening use the rule of thirds and the golden rule, to construct the picture within the shots. Also at the start of the film all the shots might use the rule of thirds but also they got a hint of a tilt hot which gives a sense of wariness and make the audience think something is going to happen.
Editing
The editing within this opening sequence is a lot of titles and fading transition effects going on. Lastly the music is very subtle and calm which gives of sense a storyline to the film. The effect of having these slow transitions is so the audience can take in the titles as they are related with the film of the genres thriller. Also it builds up mixed feelings in the audience watching and they don’t understand the story line or the plot till the middle of the film.
sound
It uses a very high pitch note repeating the same few notes over and over. This gives a sense of repetition, it also creates suspense and builds tension and allows the audience understand the setting of the film and what genre the film is as the sound is an effective element to film openings and grab audiences attention straight away .
Mise en scene
The overall mise en scene was effective as it grabs the audience as soon as it starts by collaborating all elements like sound editing and various shots so create that effect of ambiguity of the thriller. Also what was effective of the over all shot was it only gave you hints of the setting and location of the film as most shots were mid shots which it only shows top half of the body or they were close ups, by doing this gives the viewers a question to figure out so they carry on watching to find out.
You should include an analysis about the mise en scene and also how it works as an opening sequence. What clues are given for the viewer? What questions are raised in the viewer's mind?
